Some of our Landmarked buildings were lost due to the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.
The Farmers building closed in February 2012 after damage sustained in the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. It was demolished in July/August 2014.
The Kaiapoi Courthouse (latterly the Kaiapoi Museum) was deemed structurally unsound after the September 4 earthquake and was demolished over several days from 10 September 2010.
The Masonic Lodge building was damaged in the September 2010 earthquake and remained closed from then on. It was finally demolished in September 2013.
The Rialto Theatre was damaged in the September 2010 earthquake. It was hoped that it could be repaired but further damage sustained in the February and June 2011 earthquakes made that impossible. It was finally demolished on 14 November 2011.
